Redesign of the Subaru Crosstrek 2024

Although there are sexier small SUVs on the market, Subaru has never been associated with glitz. Instead, with its raised body and black bottom coating, this SUV is designed to be used occasionally in the mud. Subaru has updated the Crosstrek this year with new front fascia, grille designs, and unique wheel designs. The changes aren’t drastic, but it’s still a charming, understated piece. The standard model has 17-inch black alloy wheels, while the higher-end variants have 18-inch alloy wheels. A roof spoiler, black top rails, and multi-reflector halogen headlights are standard on the base model. In contrast, fog lights and LED steering-responsive headlights are available on higher-end variants. Except for the standard Crosstrek, a power sunroof is an option, and the new Sport has its grille design.

All trims have the same length of 176.3 inches, a width of 71 inches, and a height of 63.4 inches (including the roof rails). The only change is the lower roof rails on the Crosstrek Hybrid, which gives it 62.8 inches. The Crosstrek is no ordinary hatchback or car, with 8.7 inches of ground clearance. The CX-30, on the other hand, has an impressive eight inches of ground clearance. The manual Crosstrek is the lightest variant, weighing 3,117 pounds, while the hybrid Crosstrek weighs 3,717 pounds.

Interior

Like other Subarus, the design language of the 2024 Crosstrek is robust and practical. There are five people, and all seats are comfortable and supportive. Despite certain visual features like carbon fiber trim and unique orange stitching on the seats, it appears to be basic given the price point. The s Crosstrek, like other crossovers, has 60/40 split-folding rear seats that do not fold flat, limiting its usability. The leather seats in the higher trim grades are comfortable and supportive.

All of the controls are well labeled and straightforward to operate. Finding a comfortable driving position is simple and can be done with many adjustments. Due to the hatchback-based design, cargo space is limited to rivals like the Kia Seltos and Honda HR-V, which are higher and more practical. The hybrid model is significantly more constrained due to the battery pack taking up baggage space.

Engine

The Crosstrek will continue to be available with three drivetrain options, including a plug-in hybrid. The base versions’ 2.0L naturally aspirated flat-4 engine produces 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. A quarter-mile takes 16.9 seconds, and reaching 60 mph takes 9 seconds. The Sport and Limited models use a more powerful 2.5L flat-4 engine from the Outback, producing 183 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. The extra power cuts the time it takes to reach 60 mph from 7.8 seconds to 7.8 seconds and the quarter-mile from 16 seconds to 16 seconds.

In the recently announced plug-in hybrid model, a 118 hp electric motor is mated with a 2.0L flat-four engine for 147 hp and 149 lb-ft of torque. Surprisingly, thanks to the electric motor’s instantaneous torque, the hybrid model is faster than the regular 2.0L engine, reaching 60 mph in 7.9 seconds and clearing the quarter-mile in 16.6 seconds. An all-electric capacity of up to 17 kilometers is possible thanks to the 8.8 kWh battery. On the Base and Premium trim levels, the 6-speed manual transmission is standard, with the CVT transmission available as an alternative on the Sports and Restricted trim levels. All Subaru models come equipped with Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive system.
