Should Subaru Revive the Baja ?

Should Subaru Revive the Baja? Subaru used to offer a small truck with AWD called the Subaru Baja. The Subaru Baja was made available between 2003 and 2006 and featured a variety of noteworthy features. Rumors are circulating that Subaru may reenter the truck market.

Baja ST-X had a turbocharged four-cylinder Boxer Engine, while the Baja had a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated Boxer engine. The four-door Baja ST-X (Subaru Truck Xperimental) had an extendable cargo bed and a switchback design. The vehicle was also painted in Solar Flare Orange.

Baja ST-X featured a recliner rear seat and large rear windows that opened to the truck’s bed. When the seat was upright, the retractable rear window would slide into or out of the top of the rear window. A hinged door was located between the cargo bed and the back of the passenger cabin.

Imagine a 2023 Subaru Baja ST-X model with a similar design. It is based on the 2022 Crosstrek compact SUV powered by an FA24 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer Engine. A 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Boxer engine would be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or the optional Subaru Performance Transmission (CVT), offered in 2022 WRX.

The 2023 Subaru Baja ST-X will also have more ground clearance and a dual-function X-Mode for off-road adventures. The interior will feature solar flare orange trim on seats, dash, and center console, just like the prototype pickup from the LA Auto Show 2000.

The 2023 Subaru Baja ST-X will likely be a massive hit with adventure and compact pickup enthusiasts. Subaru is bringing back the 1999 Subaru Baja ST-X pickup. If Subaru of America offered it, would you consider buying a 2023 Subaru Baja ST-X compact pickup on the 2022 Crosstrek?
